Job Purpose or Essential Functions

  • Assist students in getting the information and equipment they need
  • Checks items in and out using the library’s circulation system
  • Open or close the library
  • Assist with new item acquisitions, cataloguing, interlibrary loan, and test proctoring
  • Assists in library usage data collection
  • Handles cash or credit card payments
  • Performs maintenance and cleaning of library space and equipment
  • Assures the library is orderly
  • Participates in special library projects
  • Assists in explaining Library & Makerspace Policies, use information, rules of conduct

Qualifications/Competencies

  • Qualifications include but are not limited to:

    • A sincere desire to help people – this is a must!
    • Attention to detail – there are a lot of procedures to remember for different equipment, and mistakes checking equipment in / out and putting it away should be extremely rare
    • Reliability – I should be able to trust you when leaving the library in your hands, and you need to show up on time for shifts or find someone to cover them.
    • Interest in working with Makers and using the Makerspace and equipment available.

Experience

  • No experience required, but previous experience working in a library is a plus, as is customer service experience.

Students will be selected through review of their submissions and an interview process.

Expected dates of employment: January 6 – May 5, 2025

Number of Hours per week: 8 hours a week minimum, 20 hours maximum

Wage Range:

Wage ranges are based on Washington State’s minimum wage requirements.

$16.28 - 17.25 per hour, depending on number of terms worked at DigiPen

Working Conditions:

  • Evenings and weekend shifts may be required.
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
    • some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, up to 25 lbs
    • some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching
    • significant fine finger dexterity
  • Generally, the job requires roughly 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing.


DigiPen Student Employee Academic Requirements:

  • Are currently a Matriculated student at DigiPen Institute of Technology
  • Good Academic Standing – not on Academic Warning as defined in DigiPen Course Catalog
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Requirement Exceptions:

It is possible to still be selected for a position with DigiPen if you do not meet the requirements above, so don't let that dissuade you from applying!
