Position: Student TA - PRJ-1000-A: Introduction to Production (Stachnik), Su24

Reports to: Joe Stachnik

Lab Times: Fridays, 2:00 p.m. – 5:10 p.m. @ McCay

Seeking an enthusiastic and highly communicative TA to help lead the charge in introducing 3D production in Unreal Engine 5. All students with basic Unreal Engine knowledge are welcome to apply! Gain experience in communication, art direction, and tech troubleshooting, and further reinforce your understanding of Unreal Engine foundations. Being flexible and learning while on the job is encouraged.

Graphic design, font, type, and color are cornerstones of the class. Practical 3D production topics include level blockout, level streaming, material creation, Sequencer camera techniques, and more. Revision control is an essential skill being introduced and reinforced throughout the course.

Essential Functions

A Teaching Assistant (TA) is expected to assist the instructor in the classroom as requested by the instructor. Responsibilities may include equipment setup and/or operation (e.g., running slide decks during lectures), facilitating student presentations, answering student questions during labs, pre-grading assessments, submitting attendance sheets, etc. TAs are expected to assist with grading outside the classroom, meet regularly with the instructor, and may be required to meet with students outside class to answer questions as needed. Other duties as assigned by the instructor.

TAs will meet weekly with the instructor for performance feedback and duty modification and will receive a full evaluation once per semester.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Classroom A/V setup and tear-down
  • Making copies of paper handouts for students
  • Grading student assignment submissions using provided guidelines and rubrics
  • Uploading grades onto Moodle
  • Providing clear, consistent, constructive feedback in the grading to the students
  • Timely delivery of graded reports/assignments
  • Being on your feet for classroom supervision
  • Live "Unreal Engine 5" tech support during in-class demos
  • Revision control tech support
  • Facilitating and guiding peer discussions during in-class critique sessions
  • Accountable for tracking and reporting the amount of time worked

Qualifications/Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of Unreal Engine 5
  • Enthusiastic and patient towards others
  • Possess a positive attitude toward learning and and invested in the success of their fellow students
  • Comfortable interacting with other students on an instructional level as a mentor
  • Reliable, punctual, and prepared to attend with complete focus during work hours
  • Strong communicator
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to give critique in a professional manner
  • Have taken either PRJ-1000 or PRJ-202

Experience

  • Unreal Engine 5
  • Source control / Version control / Revision control
  • Any graphic design experience is a plus

Expected number of hours per week: 4

Wage Range:

$16.28 - 17.25 per hour, depending on the number of terms worked at DigiPen

DigiPen Student Employee Academic Requirements:

  • Are currently a Matriculated student at DigiPen Institute of Technology
  • Good Academic Standing – not on Academic Warning as defined in DigiPen Course Catalog
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Have taken, and passed with a B or better, either PRJ-1000 or PRJ-202

Requirement Exceptions:

It is possible to still be selected for a position with DigiPen if you do not meet the requirements above, so don't let that dissuade you from applying!

Once you have applied forand the supervisor decides to offer you – a position, we will contact the necessary managers (Supervisor, Department Chair, and/or the Dean of Faculty) to complete and sign off on an Academic Waiver form, depending on which requirements need to be waived.
